Dr Harry Ball
Dr Ball, the founder of SleepWise Clinic, left his general dental practice in 1998 to follow his special interest in pain management at the Temporomandibular Disorders Pain Clinic at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital. It was there he started treating patients with oral appliances for sleep apnea who were referred to the clinic by medical specialists.
Witnessing the excellent results of treatment, often life changing, Dr Ball developed a growing interest in the field of dental sleep medicine which led to the establishment of SleepWise Clinic, formally known as Medident Sleep Clinic, with Ian Gale in 2004 in Moorabbin.
The establishment of oral appliance therapy as a mainstream therapy, based on worldwide studies demonstrating effectiveness, and the excellent results of treatment, led to a growing number of referrals with the vast majority of patients coming from sleep physicians, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, GP’s, dentists and satisfied patients. Due to the growth of the clinic and the need to be more centrally located for patients who came from all over Victoria and also interstate, SleepWise Clinic moved to Collins Street Melbourne in 2007. Dr Harry Ball is the current co-chairperson of the dental sleep medicine division of the Australasian Sleep Association.
