25 Years of SleepWise Clinic: A Quarter Century of Better Sleep
Some milestones are worth stopping to celebrate and 25 years of helping Australians sleep better is certainly one of them.
SleepWise Clinic is proud to mark a quarter century in dental sleep medicine, a journey that began with the vision of Dr Harry Ball, whose pioneering work laid the foundation for what SleepWise has become today. What started as a modest practice has grown into one of Australia's most recognised and trusted clinics for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea - with practices having operated across Moorabbin, Melbourne CBD, Geelong, and most recently, Hawthorn East.
Dr Ball, who has since retired from clinical practice, built something that endures. His commitment to evidence-based care and patient outcomes created a culture that continues to define SleepWise to this day - and the clinic's story is far from over.
A Presence That Reached Beyond the Clinic
Over the past 25 years, SleepWise's work has captured the attention of some of Australia's biggest media outlets. Features on Channel 7, Channel 9, and Channel 10, along with written coverage in The Age, have helped shine a much-needed light on not just snoring but sleep apnoea - a condition that affects millions of Australians, the vast majority of whom remain undiagnosed. That kind of public awareness matters, and SleepWise has been proud to play a role in driving it.
Leading the Way in Dental Sleep Medicine
The field of dental sleep medicine has evolved enormously over the past two and a half decades, and SleepWise has evolved with it. While dental sleep medicine is not yet recognised as a standalone speciality, the Australasian Sleep Asosciation’s Fellowship in Dental Sleep Medicine (FDSM) accreditation has been a significant and welcome development, providing a formal pathway for dentists with a deep commitment to the field to have that expertise recognised. SleepWise's sleep medicine dentists have embraced this, reflecting the clinic's enduring dedication to clinical excellence and ongoing education.
That commitment to the broader field extends further still. At Sleep Down Under - Australasia's premier dental sleep medicine conference - Dr Ken Lee serves as Co-Chair of the Dental Sleep Medicine Council, while Dr Jeffrey Tho is a member of both the Education Committee and the Dental Sleep Medicine Council. It is a proud reflection of the clinic's standing within the profession and its ongoing investment in shaping the future of dental sleep medicine in this country.
The Team Behind the Milestone
Today, SleepWise continues to grow and serve under the leadership of Dr Ken Lee, Dr Krystel Skilton, and Dr Jeffrey Tho - a team whose clinical rigour, warmth, and genuine dedication to their patients carries forward everything Dr Ball first built. Behind them, a committed front desk team ensures every patient feels supported from the very first phone call, and a group of dedicated sleep medicine dentists bring skill and care to every consultation.
And the patients themselves - many of whom have taken the time to leave five-star Google reviews - deserve a special mention. Their feedback is not taken for granted. It is a reminder, every single day, of why this work matters.
Here's to the Next 25!
Twenty-five years is a remarkable achievement in any field. In a discipline as important and as growing as dental sleep medicine, it is a testament to the vision of those who started it, the dedication of those who have carried it forward, and the trust of the patients who have placed their care in SleepWise's hands.
There are many more years of service ahead, and many more Australians to help sleep better. SleepWise Clinic is just getting started.
